Client Highlights: Prelude

In what I call, “My Past Life,” I majored in Communications and pursued a career in Journalism and Media Production. I had been interested in the art of storytelling from a very young age, telling my mother in second and third grade that I wanted to be a journalist. As funny as it sounded, the intrigue came from talking to old people - not to be candid, but as a child, anyone 20+ years of age is an “old” person.

B-logging became v-logging, diary entries became small videos, conversations became interviews, became documentaries, became a diploma, career, and so forth. Television journalism run by a network is awful. Unless you are a leading reporter or have a role on the investigation team… grand openings, car crashes and COVID-19 were your beat… it took my love out of the job, the heartfelt storytelling.

When I found tattooing, of course the art aspect stroked the creative junky sectors of my brain… but the canvases became a new obsession. What kinds of people get tattoos? What has brought them to the tattoo chair at this moment in life? Anyone who has ever had their hair done understands what I mean when I say client/provider trauma dump session, but something hits different when the person you are talking to for 2+ hours is causing physical pain - not to harm. I have seen the deepest and darkest parts of some of my client’s souls. Often times I don’t even ask, but I will always hold space….

Client Highlights will be a platform to represent and hold space for the people who have built me by donating their flesh and blood to my very own cathartic release. With permission, I will interpret their stories and tattoo journies… using my platform to speak for those who speak on my behalf when they do not have to. They allow me to do what I love each and every day.
